Support Waves

Support Waves — a student grief-support group

I can't believe it's already October! Junior year has been super busy with schoolwork, tutoring, and preparing for the SAT.

Recently, a friend and I started a club at school called Support Waves. We both know what it's like to lose our fathers, and we wanted to create a space where other students who have been through similar experiences can come together, share their stories, and support each other in a safe and understanding environment.

After losing my father, I realized how tough and isolating grief can be, especially as a student. School keeps going, life moves forward, but inside, many of us are struggling with loss and don't have a space to talk about it. That's why we started Support Waves.

Another reason I felt inspired to start this club is because of Sequence Me Now. I've seen firsthand how a group of my father's close friends came together after he passed, determined to carry on his legacy. Watching them unite, all sharing the experience of losing their best friend, was incredibly inspiring.

My father started Sequence Me Now to educate cancer patients about new ways to fight their illnesses, all while battling his own cancer. His dedication, even in the face of his own struggles, is something I deeply admire.

In the end, both Sequence Me Now and Support Waves share the same mission: helping others. We're building waves of connection, compassion, and healing.

Until next time! — Devona
